Time to Clean House

A couple of losses and a bloody nose are good for the mind. They help bring focus and clarity to a situation in danger of growing fuzzy. Let's be honest with ourselves. Holding on to players showing promise two or three years hence makes no sense. The Celtics stand no better chance to win another title than they do right now, and so the time to strike is also right now.

It's time to clean house.

Ok, that might be too strong.

It's at least time to clean up the clutter.

My sole measure of evaluation for the rest of the season is this:

Does this Celtics player or that Celtics player help us win a championship?

If the answer is no, and that player can be packaged with another player not vital to defending our championship, then, by all means, deal them both.

Brian Scalabrine--has a nice contract that might help yield a veteran making as much or more than himself.

Gabe Pruitt--Redundant of several other players on the roster. If he's not Rodney Stuckey by now, let him try to be Rodney Stuckey somewhere else.

JR Giddens--I really like this kid, almost to an irrational extent. But if Doc has no plans to play him this year, deal him for someone who can contribute--this year.

Bill Walker--I also like this kid, but not as much as Giddens, partly because of his medical history and partly because he strikes me as undersized. Same algorithm. Use him or deal him.

Tony Allen--Can't provide a consistent offensive spark off the bench, and his ability to lockdown opposing wings is increasingly suspect. How long are we going to wait for this guy to be the player we've wanted him to be?

Glen Davis--Redundant. Undersized power-forward and severely undersized center that has difficulty getting his shot off in tall traffic. Minimal shot blocking ability, negligible intimidation ability.

Patrick O'Bryant--If the C's don't make use of him now to give Perk's shoulder an extended rest, jettison him, or at least consider doing so.

What teams might be interested?

See the next post.

that said, i'm not soo much concern with our bench: not with the quality anyway, but lot of worry about their focus, expecially players like TA...

I think we need more reliable impact players off the bench. We need more length.

If those players are already on the roster, they need to step up.

I'm willing to go to war with the existing roster, if need be.

At the same time, I'd like to see a couple of upgrades.

The Warriors are expected to be breaking up their team soon with a disappointing season and management changes coming soon. They have some good players who are supposed to be on the trading block. With wins like they had last night though they might change their plans.
