And Another Thing

Can we get over the idea that the green didn't take the 12/25 game seriously?

After the road victories over the Orlando Magic and the Atlanta Hawks, Paul Pierce made a point of saying that they were "statement" games.

So road games against the Magic and the Hawks are important but the road game against the Lakers wasn't?

Give me a break.

It's OK for the Celtics to publicly downplay the Christmas-Day defeat. That's what you do when you lose a big game.

But let's not pretend they mean it.

I'm not saying that they didn't take that game seriously. But there were other extenuating circumstances that intervened.

They were tired. They had just put out tremendous energy to keep that 19 game win streak going when they weren't playing their best. They had continually gotten down early or let teams come back against them. Then they face the Lakers who had a very easy schedule and who were playing like it was game 7 of the Finals (Since they didn't make it to game 7 after getting blown out in game 6, this makes sense). The Celtics were playing as hard as they had in the previous games, but they weren't playing the type of team defense and team basketball that they are now. The Celtics need to blow them out by 50 in the Garden to end all speculation that the Fakers are capable of winning a series against the Celtics.

Oh, I didn't mean you FCF.

I actually meant the players.

They sort of pooh-poohed the loss.

I understand why.

I just don't believe them.

It was a big game, and they'll be sky high for 2/5.

Well not that they didn't take it seriously but they approached it as
any other game. Honestly that was some uninspired basketball they played
that day and there is a clear difference in the effort between that game
and those in Orlando/Atlanta. Ray Allen said they didn't want to lose to all the
top 3 teams on the road so I can see how the Orlando game would become important
after that slump. And I guess they needed to shut the Hawks up. That being said
I hope they consider the next game a statement one because I am loving this trend
of embarrassing their opponents.

Yeah, I'm groovin' on how they are playing now, too.

Once we win the rematch, we can focus on how to get past the Cavs in the East.

I have to say I believe the players were telling the truth because they sure didn't play against L.A. as if it was a statement game. And they paid the price for it.

Oh well.

As long as we win on 2/5, I'll forgive and forget.
