Three games may not be sufficient judgment time for historical purposes, but it's all we have to go on for now.And the early returns look promising for Chris Ford and the Celtics . The insertion of Kevin Gamble into the starting lineup to share the small forward spot with Reggie Lewis has resulted in three victories and, for the time being anyway, resolved the much-debated dilemma at the position.

Michael Smith and Ed Pinckney were also given a chance earlier this year, but neither satisfied Ford.

I miss Reggie. I get sad every time I read the articles about him.

I liked Reggie, too. He could have helped bridge the gap between bird and now, especially if Len hadn't died too.

Then you think how close Pierce came to dying.

All in one franchise.
