"It is hard to explain to someone what was happening out there, unless that person has tried to play ball hurt," said Auerbach.

"All of our big guys have no reactions. I don't want to make excuses, but these are the facts. A perfect example was the (Bill) Walton play they showed in (slow-motion) replay. The ball is loose, and Walton has the first shot at it. You can see his mind reacts before anyone else involved in the sequence. But his body does not. Before his mind can tell his body to get moving, he gets beat to the ball.

This is the way it is with (Robert) Parish. And the same with (Kevin) McHale. It is painful to watch. These guys are giving it everything they've got, but physically they just can't do it."
