Can Doc Make It Work?

Last time I checked, the following balls had been thrown in the air for Doc to juggle:

KG is out with a knee injury.

Paul Pierce walks around with a limp, grimacing, grabbing his leg, getting it massaged and sprayed with pain killer. Last week he dislocated the thumb on his shooting hand.

Tony Allen is out until the playoffs, perhaps longer.

Brian Scalabrine is having his best year as a Celtic, but is now out indefinitely with Troy-Aikman Syndrome.

Rajon Rondo, too, is enjoying a terrific season, and might be the second best point guard in the NBA. The only problem is that he now has a two-time All-NBA point guard looking over his shoulder.

Oh yeah. Him.

But for his personality quirks and behavioral issues, Stephon Marbury might be headed for Springfield. Instead, those quirks have Starbury hoping that his stint with the Celtics saves him from a one-way trip to Europe.

If all that weren't enough, the Celtics added Mikki Moore to the mix as well. The expectations aren't too high for Da Mik. Or maybe they are. When a reporter asked Doc why the Celtics lost to the Lakers at home, Doc replied, "because we lacked length down the stretch." Mikki's supposed to add that length. Translation: adding Mikki would have made the February 5th loss a win. That's not too much to hang on a 33-year-old journey-man, now is it?

Clearly, Doc has a lot on his plate. In this regard, he shares something in common with KC Jones during the Spring Campaign of 1988, when the Celtics were trying to integrate Artis Gilmore, Bill Walton, and Jim Paxson all at the same time. Sadly, Doc’s instincts are like Jones’. Both decided to go with their top guns, playing them max minutes and thereby running them into the ground before the playoffs.

Hopefully, Doc will give that game plan a second thought.

I'm very frustrated by Doc's rotations. The Globe says he wants to play Ray and Paul MORE minutes. The Herald says Doc realizes that he's overplaying the two of them, and I don't know what to believe. I think the problem is he asks Paul if he wants rest, and of course Paul is going to say no, being the warrior he is. Doc has to stop doing that and GIVE Paul rest. This is going to drive me crazy until the NJ game tomorrow and the big show downs with the Cavs and the Magic later this week.

What I find funny is the word "want."

Want?

U da coach, man?

If you WANT to do something, you know, go ahead and do it. There's nothing stopping you!!!!
