How healthy is Kevin Garnett? Why haven't we heard anything about his injury?
--Bullets' Forever
I'm starting to remind myself of Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory. Hard to believe, I know. Even my new Bio/Profile pic (above right, bono) kind of looks like a guy who lives in his basement pondering the grassy knolls of the world. But ladies and gentlemen, it is September 10th. Camp starts very soon. Do we expect KG to just emerge from the locker room one day, put on his super hero cape, and start going full tilt?
Or is it more likely that Doc, Danny and the crew at Waltham will baby him for the first several weeks?
On that note, let me make an observation about Celtics-Cavs: I think Doc looks at these games as a good opportunity to play short-handed, without one member of the Big 3. If the green can win sans Garnett, Ray Allen, or Paul Pierce, then think how they'll do with the full complement?! If they lose, no biggie, we weren't full strength. Plus, we open on the road. Even lower expectations.
So as much as I hate to say it, I'm going on record now in forecasting a cameo role to possibly no role for KG in the 10/27 game. I'm leaning brief stint for now. You know, even us conspiracy-theory guys need a small dose of optimism every now and again.

Boston Sports Nation--Not too worried.
Celtics Circuit--Sending readers back to the video I mention below. At the 50 second marker of Part 1, KG looks like he's scrimmaging. I'm not so sure that's a recent video. As I mentioned to Florida Celts Fan, I believe I see Doc Rivers in the video (upper left, legs spread, leaning forward, whistle in mouth). Can coaches attend drills at this point of the year? Also, I'm not positive, but there is a big dude standing under the basket, out-of-bounds. He looks like Leon Powe.
Reds's Army--Asks whether we should be worried.
Loy's Place--Not buying the no news is good news argument.
Any thoughts on KG's appearance at the 50-second marker of the video?

I think it's an old video, with the biggest indicator being that dude is in fact Leon Powe.
I think the most accurate info released about his injury was in one of Bill Simmons' articles.
Lex, if you can dig that up, I can forward the relevant portion to one of my Orthopedic Surgeon friends for some analysis.
Since we are obsessing here, what about the way Paul said "pretty gooood" in the interview?
Can we read anything into that? I was thinking I liked the way he said it! :)
Funny!
My bottom line is would sheed have signed if KG's return was in doubt? It (the return) may just drag on a bit.
Sure, CW, if you can get more info, that would be great.
I'll have to look for simmons' articles.
Good point about Sheed.
You know, I hope they ease him in. We have the depth for it. Bigger minutes would help Sheed get acclimated; it sounds like Baby is ready to do serious damage; and I think Sheldon will really surprise a lot of people.
Yeah, I'm with you, especially on the sheed getting minutes to get acclimated. In fact, even when he gets healthy, I say bring KG off the bench.
Sheed might have signed to take KG's place rather than play with him. Think of the big role he would have in a team that would still have a chance to win a title with him there, even if KG wasn't.
I believe that CW is right about it being an older video. Yet more smoke screen put up by the Celtics establishment.
Now you are getting ME worried, Lex!
But on the positive side, we did have that blurb in the Tim Grgurich interview about KG playing on the teams there.
Well, hopefully he is ok, and they do whatever they need to for him to get back 100% ASAP, whenever ASAP is.
Don't forget that KG guaranteed a championship this season. If he had any doubt about his knee, I don't think he would have gone out on a limb like that. What do you think?
Yeah, that's a good point, too.
He'll be OK, I think, Just a matter of when he'll be full speed.
Good point. You would think he felt his knee would not be an obstacle to make such a prediction.
However, the guy is so emotional, you just never know. You also have to take into account the context of the conversation.
He was talking to his boss (who has not been known to lack confidence himself), who will be paying him 50 million over five years.
I agree with Lex. He will be OK, it just may take more time. If he were 100% now, we would probably have heard something already.
Wait, maybe the Celtics are trying to stay under the radar, letting teams dismiss them...so they can beat the living piss out of them later!!
One other possibility is that the doctors told him absolutely no playing/practicing/scrimmaging until camp opens.
If so, that still would seem to postpone full recover until nov-dec, imo.
If that's their strategy, CW, it certainly is working. Celtics are ranked anywhere from 4-6 on most preseason power rankings. I love being the underdog.
FCF wins the deep, dark thought of the day with her comment that Sheed knowingly signed to replace kg, not to join him.
I don't really believe that Sheed signed to replace KG but if the case is made the Sheed wouldn't have signed unless KG was going to be 100%, you could make the case that KG not being 100% was the reason he signed.
Did you find the link to the story about Tim G? I posted it in the comment section on LOY's and in the comments below the PP video story
No, I didn't. Let me go check it out.
Found it.
Sounds like a fair interpretation. Thanks, FCF!
Well, I'm concerned. I'd like to think he'll be 100% by xmas. But since we really don't much of anything, who knows.
Just play him walton minutes until feb and see how he does.
What's wrong with that?
KG would be the second best sixth man in the last 23 years.
