1983-84 Boston Celtics
Bucks 106, Celtics 87
Record 29-9
January 16, 1984
None of the Celtics bothered to make excuses for yesterday's 106-87 drubbing by the Milwaukee Bucks, which must have infuriated CBS and forced thousands of Bostonians to switch back to Ch. 38's "Fantastic Voyage," or Ch. 56's "Pardners." "We obviously didn't play well," said Larry (3-for-13) Bird, who likes the Mecca about as much as he like The Silverdome and the Oakland Coliseum. "We had a big game Friday against Philly, but that's no excuse to come in here and play as badly as we did."
"It's like on Entertainment Tonight,' " added Kevin (0-for-8) McHale. "This was the stinker of the week." "You're bound to have one like this in an 82-game season," said Cedric Maxwell. "But to do it today was depressing. I can just see people around the country tuning in and saying, Yeah, let's watch the best team play,' and then turning on and seeing us play like this." Danny Ainge was Boston's lone bright spot. He hit eight of 13 shots and led the Celtics with 18 points in 28 minutes. Despite yesterday's Celtic gift, the Bucks have lost 10 of 17, including three of of its last five home games.
