While we're thinking deep thoughts about the deep roster, the next question would seem to be who gets roster spots 10-12? If you're name isn't Sheed, Baby, S'quisy, or E.House, you got somethin' to prove. What can we expect?
Lester Hudson. Out. NBDL.
Danny Ainge has said it over and over and over. We don't need another point guard. We got Lemon Squisy, Eddie, and even Tony Allen. I might also throw in Ray Allen at the point down the stretch of close games, with this lineup.(By the way, I talk a lot about the KG and the Four Guns lineup, and the obvious precedent was game four of the 2008 NBA Finals. But I just found a post that reminded me that Doc used it on the road against San Antonio in the spring of 2008. That's another reason there was no panic in game 4. The C's had already come back from a 20+ deficit on the road against a real defense). So with all these gents in front of him, Lester the Molester won't be up in the bigs come 10/27.
JR Giddens. Out. NBDL.
I like this kid. But as I said earlier, the longer you watch the KG-Era Celtics, the more you become convinced that there are Doc Rivers guys and non-Doc Rivers guys. Bill Walker is a Doc Rivers kind of player. JR Giddens? probably not.
That was easy.
Now for the hard part.
Left on the roster we've got Brian Scalabrine, Billy Walker, Tony Allen, and Shelden Williams. Keeping both Shelden and Scals active seems redundant, barring injuries, and let's assume, for the sake of argument, everyone is healthy. Doc knows that he can inactivate Scals at anytime, and won't get any push back. Still, Doc wants Shelden to earn the spot. So training camp and the exhibition games will be interesting. I'm going with Shelden active, Scals inactive, just because inactivating Scals will cause fewer issues.
That brings us to Sky v. TA. Again, keeping them both active seems redundant. So it will be one or the other. The obvious choice should be Sky Walker. TA has had his chance. Not so with Billy Boy. Moreover, TA is largely the same player as Marquis Daniels. While Bill Walker is more of a power 3 and less of a swingman. Edge goes to Sky, and I say Danny keeps trying to deal TA as camp wears on.
So we've got Lester Hudson, JR Giddens, and either Brian Scalabrine or TA being inactivated for the regular season opener, assuming no injuries to anyone else. Who gets the final spot on the active roster?
If I have to choose between Scals and TA, I'm gonna give the 12th spot to Scals as a lifetime achievement award. There is talk on some message boards that TA will get cut outright before 10/27. Given the number of injuries from last year and the desire to better regulate the starters' minutes at the 2-3 positions, I just don't see Tony Allen getting cut from the roster. Traded for money or a second rounder, perhaps. Cut outright--no.

There is also talk of TA being the 10th man ahead of BW. I suppose its possible. Doc likes the veterans.
My question is whether Doc likes TA enough to deny BW of a chance show his stuff?
I agree with all of your conclusions. With Danny trying really hard to deal Tony, keeping him active is a double edged sword. The more he plays, the more dumb things he seems to do. I'd rather have Scal and Walker active and TA on the IL. Too bad we can't send him to the D-League.
