Rondo Doesn't Do Pre-Season

After watching the second consecutive uninspiring performance from Rajon Rondo, I'm left to conclude that he finds it difficult to motivate himself for meaningless games. Understandable. Let's hope that is the case. But while we're on the subject of #9, a couple of more observations.

First, his jump shot. His new jump shot isn't any better than his old jump shot. We can give it time, but he doesn't look confident or comfortable with it. At least his old jumper was his jumper. He seemed comfortable with it and made more than his share of big shots from the outside (these two shots in the fourth quarter of the series against Cleveland come to mind).

Second, several pundits have noted that a big burden rests on the shoulders of Doc Rivers this season, as he attempts to manage the egos, talents, strengths, and weaknesses of this team. While Doc's doing this standing on the sidelines, Rondo's in charge of actually getting it done. That's a fairly big challenge, and it will be interesting to see how Rondo does it, because heading into the season, he was on the radar as one of the NBA's best point guards. Part of his rise to fame came from nearly averaging a triple double in last year's playoffs.

Will his ego suffer if his numbers don't continue to reflect a rarefied level of play?
