Da Beast Ain't da Least

Perhaps someone showed Kendrick Perkins that LA Times article I referenced the other day, and he took umbrage. Perhaps he read my post and decided he is "all that" and then some.

Maybe he's just starting to emerge. You know the old saw about it taking four or five years for NBA big men to come into their own.

Whatever the case, one of the Celtics so-called "weak links" has been on a beast of a tear the last five games, averaging 9.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game. He's blocked 9 shots in his last two games alone.

Again, I must ask:

Obviously, the Bynum-Beast matchup goes to the Purple?

Ha!

Perk came into the league directly from high school and spent his entire first season just working on his body (he played all of 30 minutes the whole first season). He had very little playing time the second season (9mpg) and so he has had really 3 seasons with decent playing time to work on his game. Compare Perk to another center out of high school in Jermaine O'Neal. With more playing time, it still was 5 years before O'Neal broke out. Perk is in his break out season right now and is....well, he is breaking out. GO PERK!! I think his recent play is more gaining confidence than anything. He always could play, he just didn't have the confidence in his game that he is gaining now.

Agreed.

If he did nothing but pretend he was Mark Eaton, he'd be valuable.

But he's doing a lot more than blocking shots!
