If you want more info from Vegas, here you go:
Boston has been one of the biggest money burners in the NBA since the first of the year. They’ve only covered 4 of their L17 games and have been horrible against the Western Conference this season with a 4-13 ATS mark. And for all of the talk of a ‘revenge spot’, the Celtics have been lousy in them–they’re 1-5 ATS when trying to ‘avenge’ a home loss and 3-12 in revenge spots overall. Celtics are also 0-7 against the Pacific Division this year. Lakers aren’t a great spread team but the Celtics are strictly a ‘go against’ from a wagering standpoint at this juncture and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

Atlanta Hawks: Our Next to Chance Bend Over and Grab Our Ankles
Are the Boston Celtics even a top 5 team right now? Hell no. Top ten? Probably, but it doesn't matter, because once you get past the Fakers, Magic, Cavs, and Hawks, no one else stands much of a chance. It's kind of like getting excited about being ranked 12th in the college football polls. If you play for the Minnesota Gophers, 12th place is cool. If you play for the Boston Celtics, F it.
I mean, seriously, did it ever occur to you that Celtics fans dismiss the entire era between 1987 and 2007 as the lost years? Say what? We went to the Finals in 1987, and the ECFs in 1988 and 2001. In at least five other seasons, we started a front line made up of Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, and Larry Bird. That's not exactly NBA wilderness. How many teams would have traded places with us during those years?
Do Celtics' fans care? Of course not. And that's one reason I feel justified in raking my team over the coals. Watching my other Green Team play football, I was again reminded of how much of sports comes down to taking a punch, and then hitting back. I mean, did you watch the first half of the Jets-Colts game? It looked like the Jets were gonna win 38-13. Then Peyton Manning struck back, and the game was over.
Do the Celtics have any fight left in them?
Championships may not be handed it in January. But the regular season isn't meaningless either. Are the Celtics sick of getting smacked in the chopper yet? I sure am. Another loss tonight and I'm gonna have to pull out my motivational speech from the sixth inning of the 1975 World Series.
Vegas has the Hawks favored to complete the series sweep.

Celtics to Test "Flip the Switch" Mentality against Magic, Hawks, and Lakers
In tonight's TNT matchup, the Boston Celtics face-off against the Orlando Magic, in what promises to be the first of three games in less than four nights against three of the five best teams in the NBA.
Tonight's game, like tomorrow night's game against Atlanta, will be played on the road, while the Lakers game will be played at the Gahden. The Celtics and Magic have beaten each other once this year, with both victories coming on the opponent's home court. The Hawks, meanwhile, will be going for a series sweep against the Celtics on Friday, Atlanta having one the three previous meetings this season. Speaking of sweeps, the Lakers swept the Celtics last season, and we'll find out Sunday if the Celtics are able to get up off the mat and inflict some punishment of their own.
Orlando's favored by 2.5.
I'm excited to see how the team does. The Celtics could easily lose all three. Pundits around the league have pointed out that Team Green plays like a team that believes they can "turn it on" for good teams, while sleepwalking through the rest of the season. They wouldn't be the first Celtics team to play out a regular season in this manner. It says here we win 1 and drop 2 of the next three, thereby proving the suspect nature of the "flip-the-switch" mentality.

Celtics Try to Avoid Being Swept by the Clips
The only thing worse than losing to the Clippers once is losing to them twice. Boston already suffered the first humiliation on the road earlier in the season. Although the Celtics play Bill Walton's old team at home this evening, the Gahden has not been a particularly friendly place for the green to play this year.
If tonight's game is close, I will count it as a defeat. After tonight, the Celtics play the Orlando Magic, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Los Angles Lakers. The Celtics need to kick off this stretch with a convincing win.
Vegas appears to agree. The oddsmakers have the C's favored by 11.5.

Take Portland Plus the Points
Let's see here. Friday night. Home game at the friendly confines of the Gahden. In days of yore, this would have been a guaranteed Celtics blowout. And, indeed, Vegas has the once mighty Celtics favored by 9. Nine? Give me a break. What's that you say? KG will be back in the lineup? That may or may not be true, and he may or may not make a difference. I'm not even sure the Celtics will win, much less win by 9, without or without Old Number Five.
The one hope I do have is that every so often this team seems to play a good game for at least 40 minutes. They blow someone out unexpectedly, playing as if they really had title hopes in the spring. Maybe that will happen tonight. Don't bet on it, though. Take Portland and the points.

The NFL playoffs should be instructive to NBA fans. The San Diego Chargers entered the playoffs on an 11-game winning streak, making them the hottest team in the NFL. The New York Jets, meanwhile, squeaked into the playoffs with a 9-7 record. In the NFC, the Dallas Cowboys brought an end New Orleans Saints perfect season, on their way to an impressive and often dominant December. The Vikings? PU. Yesterday the Jets played the Bolts and the Queens played the Pokes. Bolts and Pokes victories, right?
So as we stutter and stammer our way through the regular season, just remember the real season doesn't start for 3 months.

Boston -8?
LINK
Hmmm. 8 points sounds like a sheetload for a road team as beat up as the Celtics are, even when the opponent only has 3 wins. Anyone think NJ will play this game as if it had the chance to rescue a season that should otherwise be forgotten?
I'll take the points.

I seriously don't care if Rajon Rondo is named to the All-Star team. What I do care about is his continued growth and maturation. The thing about Magic Johnson was that he wouldn't let his team lose big games, unless the disparity in player talent grossly favored the opposition's roster. We've seen Rajon do about everything we can ask for him in terms of growth, except one thing:
We need him to be the primary reason we win a big regular season game this year. Let's see that happen tonight.

Biggest Game of the Year?
I think it is.
You could argue that the win in Cleveland was bigger. But it was the first game of the year, Cleveland lost, and they've recovered nicely since, making that first game almost meaningless. You could argue that the win in Orlando was bigger, and, indeed, it was nice payback for the loss they inflicted on us at home. But we won in Orlando without KG last year in the playoffs, and the Poodles still have that "not ready for prime time" feel about them.
On the other hand, we know the Hawks can give us trouble in the playoffs, as evidenced two years ago, when they took a younger, healthier, and more dominant Celtics team to 7 games in the first round. Now the Hawks have a win under their belts against us in Boston, something they couldn't accomplish any time in the last two years. So Boston really needs to return the favor tonight, and then hold serve Monday when Atlanta comes to the Gahden. We lose tonight, and all of a sudden Monday's game gives Atlanta the opportunity to go up 3-0 against us, and that wouldn't be a good thing against a very likely playoff opponent.
I might also add that Cleveland just beat Atlanta twice in two nights, so anything less than two wins for Boston should be frowned upon.
Vegas has Atlanta favored by three.
